career

Magic Leap - Dec 2022 - Present:
Senior Computer Vision Research Scientist / Engineer. Zurich, Switzerland

My work focuses on providing spatial intelligence in mixed reality, using deep learning and computer vision for general scene understanding.

ETH and University of Zurich - Jul 2019 - Jun 2022:
Postdoctoral Researcher. Zurich, Switzerland

I investigated traditional model-based and deep learning approaches in event-based vision and flying robots at the Robotics and Perception Group.

Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz - Nov 2014 - Jun 2019:
Robotics Researcher. Bremen, Germany

Several activities in robotics and perception at DFKI. Among those are visual servoing and autonomous docking for the WasteShark lightweight marine drone. Robotic software developer in ESRoCOS and Entern: architecting, designing, and implementing the Environment Representation (EnviRe). Project leader at SARGON - Space Automation & Robotics General Controller - for ESA research activities.

European Space Agency - Feb 2014 - Nov 2014:
Visiting Researcher. Nordwijk, The Netherlands

Field testing for my research on SLAM and its application on the ExoMars Test Rover (ExoTeR). Software architecture, design, and implementation of the navigation, control loop, teleoperation, and image processing modules. Integration and testing of the wheel walking motion control for ExoTer. Rover navigation for the MarsFast study phase in collaboration with NASA.

Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz - Apr 2011 - Feb 2014:
Robotics Researcher. Bremen, Germany

Robotics researcher at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, DFKI: my work focused on designing and developing Bayesian probabilistic algorithms for onboard R&D robotics. More specifically, designing, and implementing the Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) of Dagon, an unmanned underwater vehicle. Developed, integrated, and tested robotics software in Sherpa and Asguard.

European Space Agency - Mar 2009 - Nov 2010:
Robotics System Engineer. Nordwijk, The Netherlands

Developed, implemented, and tested Inertial navigation systems for rovers in the ExoMars Demonstration Rover (ExoMaDeR) context. Development of a Reference Terrain Generation based on Digital Elevation Models (DEM) of target landing areas of Mars surface for the ExoMars mission. Rover Navigation support: localization, path planning, and control for the MarsREX rover study phase at the CDF.

European Space Agency - Sep 2008 - Mar 2009:
Ground Segment Engineer. Frascati, Italy

Within the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) Projects Office (EOP-GP), the work supported the definition and management of Sentinels and SMOS PDGS projects and preparation for GMES data access preoperational infrastructures. The task was applying the defined Earth Observation (EO) ground segment strategy, coordination of user services, data quality management, and mission data flow development.

Technical University of Madrid - Oct 2007 - Jun 2008:
Research Assistant. Madrid, Spain

Localization and mapping tasks in the Fractal project, Fleet of Collaborative Aerial and Terrestrial Robots, with the leadership of Prof. Antonio Barrientos: I was involved in the navigation system of wheel mobile robots.
